The TimeWalker chronograph is a fairly standard three-register chronograph. It’s a stainless steel case that measures 43mm across and 15.2mm thick. The chronograph has a 30-minute totalizer up high and a 12-hour totalizer at six o’clock, plus there is a running seconds enroll at nine o’clock. Purists might be annoyed by the date window at three o’clock, but let us recall this is a watch meant for general consumers and many customers still ask for watches that show the date. There are just two dial color options — sunburst black and white sunburst silver. Each provides contrasting tracks for the chronograph sub-registers along with a contrasting rehaut using the more detailed timing track onto it. The implemented numerals stand a wonderful height off the dial itself and also have a vertically brushed finish that makes them look really high-end. Combined with the bright red chronograph seconds hand, the contrasty dial makes studying in a glance quickly really simple. It’s wonderful to see that Montblanc really thought about making this a practical driving chronograph.Looking at the remainder of the watch, you keep finding more thoughtful details. The lugs are partially pierced, with a single curved opening on the side with the pushers and two smaller cut-outs on the other hand. Speaking of, those pushers are surrounded with small black knurled rims that match the crown along with the edge of the polished black porcelain bezel. Despite being a large sports chronograph, this view shows great attention to detail and is clearly trying to give wearers a lot to love that they won’t find in the competition.Turning the watch over you’ll find a screw-down caseback with a smoked sapphire window for looking in the motion. Sure, the decoration on the caliber isn’t much to write home about, but there’s hardly any reason to never offer you a sapphire back onto a watch like this. The motion is the Montblanc caliber MB 25.07, which is their version of the Sellita SW500. It is an automatic chronograph movement using a 46-hour power book, 25 jewels, and a frequency of 28,800 vph.

This watch is certainly more ornate than Montblanc’s more recent releases, and it is with pieces like this that they continue to find a way to encapsulate their history while creating a modern work of art. Montblanc seems to be one of the few companies that really has a knack for delivering exquisite yet understated watches while allowing room in the portfolio for more indulgent beauties like this one.
The Collection Villeret Tourbillon Bi-Cylindrique 110 Years Anniversary is powered by Montblanc’s manually wound Cailbre MB M65.63, running at 18,000bph (2.5Hz). The one-minute tourbillon is constructed from 95 hand-chamfered, bevelled, angled, and polished elements that are the result of true dedication. The tourbillon bridge alone takes nearly a week to polish and bevel, again, all completely by hand. The double cylindrical hairspring has the advantage of increasing the mechanism’s center of of gravity and is wound around a vertical axis. Even these are hand-crafted along with the entire movement itself which offers a 46-hour power reserve.
Montblanc continues to innovate while retaining their heritage and extreme attention to detail. With many companies developing their own in-house movements, it is important to keep an eye on those that are truly investing in the craft, and here, their efforts have really paid off. The life-like snake on the face seems as though it could strike at any moment and the floating hands are a remarkable touch on an already astonishing watch.
